Project Summary

Robinson Construction Company was selected to construct a replacement of their treated water effluent river outfall system. The project consisted of approximately 650 linear feet of new 36-inch diameter pipe, most of which was installed under the Susquehanna River in the shallow shoals area, and 110 linear feet of diffuser section in the main channel of the river. The pipeline installation utilized 36-inch ductile iron pipe (DIP) with 25 – 4 inch diffuser outlets installed on the diffuser section with tapping saddles. Sheet pile cofferdams, designed and installed by Robinson, were utilized to install the effluent pipe in the river. To facilitate the construction of the cofferdams, a causeway approximately 600 feet long was built in the shoals portion of the river and barges were used to construct the cofferdams in the deeper channel.

This project began in July 2009 and ran through February 2010. Due to the demanding schedule, two superintendents and two to three construction crews were utilized to allow work to continue every day of the week, including some night shifts.
