Project Summary

Robinson Construction was awarded a design-build contract for a warehouse expansion project in San Antonio.

The scope of work on the project included construction of a 130,550 square foot structural steel building as an expansion of the existing facility. The building has a membrane roof, crane extension into the new building for a 30T crane, and truck dock with six (6) docks. A new asphalt parking addition and a concrete truck parking addition were installed, as well as concrete foundations for installation of injection machines and paint booths. The interior of the building is insulated and three (3) rotational air units were installed to maintain the temperature in the space. A Mold Maintenance Shop was added by installing partitions in the area. Approximately 6,700 sq ft of interior buildout houses a breakroom and restroom. Additionally, a 3500 sq ft flammable storage/utility building and a 200 sq ft trucker’s lounge building is included.

Grading for the building pad included removing approximately 3 ft of existing material and replacing it with select fill. Site utilities included sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and new fire loop. Fire Protection, mechanical, and electrical systems were also provided as part of the project.

The project implemented a fast-track approach by designing the construction packages in phases so that earthwork could begin quickly and steel fabrication could get an early start in order to meet the tight schedule.
