Project Summary
Robinson Construction was awarded a design-build contract for a Tank Farm Expansion project at an Edible Oil Refinery and Packaging Facility located in Decatur, Alabama. The project consisted of a tank farm expansion under roof, installation of new refinery tanks, packaging updates, and a new rail loadout building.
The work included the installation of 11 new insulated tanks in the tank farm refinery, ranging in size from 24 ft to 29 ft in diameter and standing nearly 40 ft tall. The tanks required placement of mat foundations, containment walls, tank pads, and equipment pads. Structural steel, catwalks, girts, siding, roofing, and trim were installed for the tank farm canopy. The tanks included installation of a large amount of process piping in addition to the steam, compressed air, hot water, and nitrogen piping that ran throughout the project to support the client’s expansion. The work at the loadout area required a rail scale relocation, in addition to installation of a new truck scale.
Robinson crews self-performed 50 percent of this project to include concrete, structural steel erection, siding, and piping.
