Project Summary
A company constructed a new $600 million cement plant to replace its outdated 50-year-old facility. Designed to quadruple production and drastically reduce environmental impact, the new plant now ranks as the second-largest and most technologically advanced cement production facility in North America. Robinson Construction was selected for a critical role on this project—executing the complex and high-volume installation of the material handling systems and structural components required to feed raw materials from the quarry to the new production plant.
Robinson’s responsibilities spanned the full scope of heavy civil and industrial construction. The company placed more than 7,000 cubic yards of concrete for structural foundations, equipment pads, piers, and specialized containment structures. Its team installed nearly 8,000 linear feet of conveyor—some elevated more than 110 feet—to transport limestone, clay, sand, and mill scale from the quarry and stockpiles to processing equipment. Robinson erected over 100,000 pounds of structural steel and assembled more than 60 pieces of equipment, including apron feeders, crushers, weigh feeders, chutes, ducts, and bag filters. The company also completed the field assembly and installation of five large steel storage bins, each 69.5 feet tall, 32.5 feet in diameter, and weighing over 76,000 pounds, requiring complex fits, full joint welds, and precise dual-crane lifts. Additional work included installing 250 linear feet of underground pipe and over 4,200 linear feet of aspiration piping for dust collection systems, as well as constructing transformer support pads with secondary containment, prefabricated electrical room support piers, cable trench systems, and major electrical components.
