Project Summary

Due to a new business opportunity and to provide more capacity at the largest plant in their portfolio, our client who manufactures various prepared and frozen foods, chose to work with Robinson Construction on their most recent expansion project. Due to our history of successful projects with this particular client, Robinson was invited to offer a constructability viewpoint during the design phase and was able to offer alternative designs and provide cost reductions to the overall contract value.

The work on the expansion project included drilled pier foundations, structural concrete foundations, underfloor plumbing and process waste drains, concrete floor slabs, resinous flooring, structural steel building framing, bar joists and steel decking for roof structure, insulated metal panel exterior and interior walls, TPO roofing, insulated metal panel interstitial ceiling, plumbing including plant utilities, HVAC, electrical, fire alarm, fire sprinkler, and building finishes. This project also included various site improvements and upgrades such as site grading, storm detention basin and parking lot enlargement, installation of a new process waste pump station, installation of new water lines, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer including relocation and demo of many existing utility lines. Other improvements included a new water building, pipe bridge, and adding new platforms and pipe racks to existing structures.

Additional work associated with the expansion included installation of process piping (steam, condensate, compressed air, cold water, chilled water, hot water) to the process equipment, testing, and pipe insulation.

Good communication with plant personnel was vital on this project as there were many owner-related entities involved, as well as several contractors and subcontractors on the site. Care had to be taken around numerous active utilities so as not to affect the daily operations of the plant.
