Project Summary

Robinson Construction was awarded a $2.5 million contract for the installation of a 500,000 gallon spheroid elevated water tower at a complex in Missouri.

The scope of work on this project included site grading, a gravel road, supply and erection of the physical water tank, and installation of the piping connecting the water tank to the existing water distribution system. The tank structure was assembled mainly on the ground, with the larger pieces being erected and welded in place. The remainder of the tank was erected by using a derrick, which was attached directly to the tank structure. Upon completion of the steel structure, containment tarps were installed for sand blasting and painting of the tank. The tank was then disinfected, filled with water, and put into service. Additionally, the project included installation of a ring wall foundation, 1,110 lin ft of 10 in. water line from the existing mainline to the tank, and approximately 2,000 lin ft of concrete encased communications duct bank.

Despite some challenging conditions, the small confines of the site and the elevated work being performed, Robinson’s field supervision and on-site safety personnel coordinated the work safely and efficiently, earning the Company the Safety Saves Award, which is presented in recognition of contractors who work to provide a safe jobsite for craftsmen, contractor personnel, and Government personnel on USACE projects.
