Project Summary

Robinson was awarded a major subcontract to provide structural steel and process equipment to upgrade a 42,000 square foot area within the largest electroplating shop in Oklahoma. The multi-year, multi-phase, multi-discipline project involved complete demolition and remodel of the existing plating shop. Robinson’s scope included providing and installing structural steel for the interior floors, roof steel, and steel for the roof top equipment platforms. Also included in the scope was the supply and installation of stainless steel and plastic process tanks, prefabrication of process tank piping skids, and the installation of carbon steel, stainless steel, PVC, CPVC, PVDF, and Polypropylene process piping including pipe insulation throughout the plating shop. In addition, Robinson was responsible for providing and installing the air pollution control scrubbers, tank exhaust hoods, and associated ductwork.

The plating shop runs six lines capable of plating parts with nickel, chrome, and copper. There are approximately 130 plating and rinse tanks constructed of polypropylene, PVDF, and stainless steel with a capacity ranging from 200 to 1,700 gallons. Robinson chose to receive the tanks in our fabrication shop and prefabricate the pipe skids associated with each tank. The pipe skids consisted of piping, valves, pumps, filters, and heat exchangers, as well as various instruments. Prefabricating the pipe skids in the fabrication shop allowed Robinson greater control over quality and schedule and allowed easier and faster installation in the field. This also removed approximately 15,000 man-hours from the project site and put them in our fab shop under improved working conditions.
