Project Summary

As part of efforts to provide additional housing for Veterans, Robinson Construction was awarded a $7 million contract to construct an Alzheimer’s/Dementia addition to a medical community living center. The addition is a one-story twelve (12) bed unit specializing in the management of behavioral care needs of veterans with Dementia/ Alzheimer.

Robinson’s work on the project included site clearing, installation of the concrete building foundation, utility tunnel construction, structural steel erection, and wall framing and finishes. Also included in the work was the installation of electrical; HVAC; plumbing; interior finishes such as tile and epoxy flooring, carpeting, and painting; communications systems including a PA system, nurse call system, and intercom system; landscaping and exterior improvements including sidewalks, trellises, and lighting; and installation of utilities such as water and sewer service, storm sewer drainage, and electrical service. The 16,450 square foot building features a terra cotta tile system finish on the exterior walls and a relaxing courtyard for the residents to enjoy.

Robinson very closely coordinated its construction activities with the VA staff to ensure minimal interruption to the day-to-day operations of the existing Community Living Center and the entire VA Campus. Significant measures, such as implementation of an infection control plan, fire protection plan, and dust control plan, were taken to protect the Building 6 residents, visitors, and staff from the construction activities.
